Micro realism patchwork shoulder half sleeve tattoo – Primitive Tattoo Perth

Micro Realism Tattoos in Perth: Big Detail, Small Scale

Micro realism packs photo-like detail into a small tattoo. A pet’s face, a portrait, a flower or a tiny landscape is shaded with fine needles so it reads like a photograph, even when it is only a few centimetres across.

At Primitive Tattoo on Barrack Street, micro realism is one of the styles our resident artists tattoo every week, from single pieces to patchwork sleeves.

Why size still matters

Fine detail needs room to last. Ink spreads very slightly under the skin over the years, so a face that is too small can soften. Your artist will suggest the smallest size that will still look sharp in ten years, not just on the day.

Popular micro realism ideas

  • Pet portraits, especially dogs and cats
  • Portraits of loved ones
  • Flowers, birds and insects
  • Patchwork sleeves made of small realistic pieces
  • Small landscapes and meaningful places

Good reference photos

The better the photo, the better the tattoo. Bring sharp, well-lit photos where the eyes are clear. For pets, a photo taken at their eye level works best.

Placement

Forearms, upper arms, calves and shoulders suit micro realism well and heal evenly. Hands, fingers and feet fade faster, so we will talk you through the options. See more examples in our completed tattoos.

Travelling in for your tattoo?

Many of our clients work on mine sites, live in regional WA or are visiting Perth from overseas. Small micro realism pieces can often be finished in one session, so they fit neatly into a FIFO break or a short stay. Tell us your roster or travel dates when you book, and allow a few days of healing before flying or heading back to site.

Aftercare

Keep it clean, don’t pick or scratch, and keep it out of the sun while it heals. Once healed, sunscreen keeps the soft greys from fading. For more on realism, read The Rich Influence of Realism and Realistic Tattoos.
